Hurray for Sylvia!

Sylvia Day (link to her website above), who won the Readers Choice portion of the Brava contest, has already gotten The Call from Kate Duffy! And not just for one novella, but for three of them! Hurray for Sylvia! Way to go!

This isn't an overnight success for Sylvia; she's been working at writing and selling for quite a while. Which brings to mind one of my favorite quotes, from Longfellow:

The heights by great men reached and kept

Were not obtained by sudden flight,

But they, while their companions slept

Were toiling upward in the night.

As I posted elsewhere yesterday, writing is WORK. Lots of people have a vague, unfocused desire to be writers, but unless you learn to sit down long enough to write a novel, learn how to revise, and learn how to improve your writing, you're not going to sell. Writing a novel requires a whole lot of "toiling upward in the night." And once you have a completed novel, selling it isn't a walk in the park, either. It's fun work, to be sure, but it's nevertheless a lot of work and effort.

Kudos to Sylvia, whose efforts have paid off bigtime!!
