Writing again

I wrote about a thousand words on my futuristic this afternoon. It's going fine. I've been mulling over writing a Christmas story, and while I was typing, one suddenly popped into my head. Poof. I started writing it and produced about 1500 words quite quickly (I'd like it to run about 10,000 words). At that point I emailed my NCP editor and asked if she wanted it-- since my contemps aren't big sellers for NCP, I'm not sure they want anything like this from me. But I'm not sure where else I could possibly sell a Christmas short story, barely three months before Christmas. So I'll just wait to see if my editor's interested...

  1. That's great production, Ellen! Do you find it difficult to go back and forth in genres? I can't imagine trying a futuristic, but I'm always awed by the 'new worlds' authors create.

  2. I don't find it difficult to go back and forth. In fact I tend to get stalled if I don't. I was beginning to feel bored with futuristic/paranormal romance, and I really *needed* to write a bit of contemporary to get my enthusiasm back!

  4. Sometimes ideas just POOF, Yasamin, but I usually have to struggle through at least some places in each story. It sometimes takes a lot of discipline to sit down and write when I'd really rather be doing something else!
