Angela Knight and other stuff

I just read Jane's Warlord, by Angela Knight. I loved it, which I had fully expected, because I loved The Forever Kiss. This was a great book too. I noticed, though, that the spine says "paranormal romance," when in fact it's actually a futuristic time travel. I see the word "paranormal" being used inaccurately, as a catchall term, a lot nowadays.

I'm trying to figure out what to write next. I talked to someone at the chat last night who told me she was a Brava finalist too, and that Kate had had her latest submission since March, so there's no use in holding my breath on my Brava submission. That's a good thing to remember in general, anyway-- you should never submit something and stop writing, because the wheels of the publishing industry roll so slowly.

I want my next project to be a novel so that I can try to get an agent. But I can't decide if it should be a contemporary or a futuristic. The up side to a contemporary is that my Brava submission is a contemp, and I don't want an agent to think I'm a schizophrenic writer (even though I am:-). But I do in fact intend to keep writing both contemps and futuristics, and any agent that takes me on will need to be okay with that. Plus, futuristic/paranormals are hot right now. So maybe I should write a futuristic...

Sigh. The fact is, it's all an academic question right now, until my brain stops spinning and disgorges an idea I can work with. Sometimes you just have to wait for ideas to come to you. That's pretty much what I'm doing now. Which gives me some free time to go read my next Angela Knight book!

  1. Yay! Time to read! *g* I always try to read a book or two between my own wips--and the time helps me decide what I want to work on when I get back to writing! :)
