DH didn't get through a second read of I'll Be There For You because he had a new computer program for his office go live yesterday, and predictably some of it didn't go quite perfectly, so he spent the day tweaking the program. As you may have gleaned from my post below, I really don't feel he needs to read it again, and I'd like to go ahead and put it into the mail, but he's insisting, so I'll let him read it (ONE more time, but absolutely no more). I do have to live with the man, after all. But this is the problem with an in-house critique partner... he occasionally gets in my face *sigh*.
In other news, NCP has updated their submission guidelines. They are still looking for contemporary romance, but "big" contemporary romances (most of the examples they give are romantic suspense), and they firmly state, "No nerds." Gee, wonder whose books they could be referring to *wry grin*? They also have this interesting information: "NCP currently receives between 25,000 and 45,000 hits to their website every day. We have numerous authors making between $1,000 and $10,000 in royalties every pay period, with that number growing exponentially each month. It is our goal to have all of our authors making a living exclusively by writing within the next few years. Since 2003 our sales have doubled--and sometimes tripled--every quarter, and we are well on our way to becoming a multi-million dollar company by 2006."
Wow. $10,000 per quarter is a lot. Of course, I imagine that usually involves more than one book-- I could be wrong, but I don't think many ebook authors are making quite that much off a single book. I often hear the comment, "It's all in the backlist." Ebook backlists tend to continue selling, so the more books you have in your backlist, the better. Even so, I honestly don't think any publisher (small or large) will ever have ALL its authors making a living exclusively by writing. It's a nice goal, though!
