Requiem

I see from the comments below that some people already know (and thank you for the kind words of support!), but Vulcan Husband passed away yesterday. His cancer progressed unexpectedly quickly, to the point where the doctors said they'd never seen anything quite like it. He went into the hospital on Friday to have fluid taken off his heart, and they expected that to help his breathing, but his lungs were already too compromised. He never suffered the terrible pain that a lot of cancer patients go through, and he died peacefully and quietly, with his parents in the room and me holding his hand. He'd just turned forty.

  33. Ellen, I'm so very sorry, it's heartbreaking. You and your family have been on my mind a lot, and I stopped by to check on you to see how VH was doing and saw your news. I usually lurk on your blog and I remember last Aug. 1 when I saw your anniversary post and the beautiful photo of you and VH standing before the Rolls he rented for your 15th. What a special person he was and what a wonderful relationship you had with him. He was a real romantic hero.

I wish I had words of wisdom and comfort that help, but there's not much I can say at a time like this other than please know you and your children are in my thoughts and prayers and I wish you strength, healing and comfort from your family and friends in the days ahead. It's not fair, it just really really sucks. :*-(

  34. Ellen: I'm so very sorry to hear about your husband. This is my first visit here but I've seen you around the romance community. I lost my husband to cancer last August so although each wife's experience is different, I know what it's like. Please, if you ever want to 'talk', you can reach me through my blog - my email is there.
I will be thinking of you and your family.

My heart full of sorrow goes out to you and your family and your inlaws.

May God, the Angels, embrace you all at this time, to help you through this. May the memory of your cherishes husband comfort you, and know that you have a lot of prayers, good thoughts and support from all over whenever you need it.

  40. Ellen, I am very sorry for your loss. Don and I worked together years ago and I very fond memories of our work together. We lost touch for years, but about 18 months ago we happened upon each other on a technical web site. He emailed back and spoke very highly and lovingly of his family. You two were truely blessed with a wonderful relationship. Thoughts and Prayes are with you.

  41. Ellen,
Sorry this post is coming so late. I had been in touch with Don sporadically over the past few months. I just saw your journal entry the other day. My condolences. Don was a good man. I worked with him years ago at D&T in Charlotte. I have many good memories of working on the road with him as a consultant. I am glad that I was able to get in touch with him when I did. I have been praying for Don's health for some time. We know that Don is OK now where he is. I will shift my prayers toward you and your family as you try to cope with this event. Take care. Lean on God and the prayers of your friends.
I have made contact with a lot of Don's friends from the D&T days. You may be hearing from some of them soon.

  42. Hi, Ellen,

Don & I worked together at Deloitte & Touche in Charlotte for a while 1989-1991 and I recall many good times we shared in Dublin, Georgia, and in Charlotte both. You & I met shortly after Don & you married. I remember visiting your house in the Harris Blvd area of Charlotte. Tim Wright contacted me earlier this week, sharing with me the news of Don's untimely passing.

I regret to learn of this and pray comfort for your family in these hard days. I recall Don's first struggle with cancer in the early 90's and really respected the dignity and strength of character he exhibited through it. I know that my words are of little real value, but take them as they are intended: for comfort and good memories of a good man. I wish you all very well in the days and years ahead. I trust Don is free of the pain and struggle of his illness and living in the glory of the Lord. This is the comfort I can offer and the firm assurance I possess: that Christ offers us support and strength in the hardest of times here and hope for eternity.

I am pleased to see the successes you have enjoyed in the publishing of your books. I wish you much success in the future.

All for now and very best wishes,

    Peter
