A health update

My biopsy results actually indicate that I have Crohn's disease rather than ulcerative colitis (I'll get to talk to the doctor about this next week). That's a slightly worse diagnosis, I think, because it will probably involve surgery at some point (around three-quarters of Crohn's patients need surgery for various reasons sooner or later). But it's still manageable to a large degree with meds. And it's good to know what it is, so I can start getting a handle on it!

  1. Ms. Fisher,

I'm sorry to hear that you have Crohn's. I have it too and tried medications a long time ago, but they made me sicker than the disease. In 2005, I started the Specific Carbohydrate Diet which eventually put me into remission. I'm telling you about it because I wish someone would have told me about it 20 years ago - I could have avoided a lot of suffering. It's not a miracle cure or a commercial enterprise. The diet is from a book called "Breaking the Vicious Cycle" by Elaine Gottschall. The official website for the book is http://breakingtheviciouscycle.info/.

  2. I am so sorry to hear about your diagnoses. I have it too. Blech.

Try not to feel like you will HAVE to have surgery. There are some new drugs on the market that can be used to reduce the need for surgery. So the statistics from the past may not be true for people now. I sure hope so - I really want to avoid surgery if I can. Of course a lot of people have had surgery and it helped them alot. Look at David Garrard - QB of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

I would personally watch out for people who tell you a certain diet will cure you. I am pretty skeptical of that. LOL.

  3. Hugs, El, I'm sorry it's not a better diagnosis. But on the other hand, at least you know what you're dealing with. Here's hoping it's under control and you're feeling MUCH better!
