I just got a royalty statement from Random House. I opened it up expecting a pretty piddly amount, if anything at all, since THE LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS is out of print in the US and the only edition that's still selling is the Italian edition (and it's been available for at least a year). I was stunned to find a big check! Apparently (and inexplicably) I'm popular in Italy.

I have now earned almost as much in foreign royalties as I made in domestic royalties on this book. And the check I received today was more than I've earned in a year and a half of e-publishing. All very surprising, considering DARKNESS was published six and a half years ago!

  1. Congratulations! That's always a lovely surprise. :-D Feel free to dance around singing, "I'm in the money". No one is going to see you.

  2. That's terrific, Ellen! I won't see my first every royalty statement until September. I'm hoping to break even on promotion costs. *g*
